I went to my childhood church this past Sunday. I grew up in that place and it is truly bittersweet every time I return. The pastor was speaking out of John 6. He was talking about when Jesus fed the thousands with five loaves and two fish. After the whole exchange, the people decide to camp out on the hill to stay near Him. While they were sleeping, Jesus and His desciples went across the lake. When the people awoke and found He had left, they went after Him. They were quite a ways behind Him but eventually caught up. Basically, they followed Him to get more food or witness more miracles. Jesus told them that HE is the bread if life. They were following Him for a free “meal ticket”. How many of us follow Christ just for those times when we need food or money or help in some way? This has really made me think for the past few days and really analyze why I follow God and make sure it’s the right reason.
